Did you ever think about having your own website where you
can control almost everything? I’m not talking about blogs, facebook, twitter
and all the other social networking where you are somehow limited. Creating
your own website gives your students the opportunity to learn important web
skills and gives them a fun way to complete their assignments and other class work. Here are some reputable
web services you can use to create your class website for a low cost:
Weebly has a special option for creating a website
for education purposes. You can create a free class website and let your
students build sites too.
2- yola :
Yola is another good place to start building your
classroom website.
Electa Live is a virtual classroom and Web
conferencing real-time environment for live teaching and training over the
Internet. You can arrange live classes, online meetings and Webinars. You only
need a computer with an Internet connection for your live sessions.
This guy is an example of a man who's made a change
to many people lives by making z free world-class education to anyone anywhere. His name is Salman Khan and he is Bangladeshi American. You can watch him talking about technology in classrooms.
I enjoyed the video of Khan talking about the success he has had. Doing something like that is way beyond my technical skills, but it is good to see the internet expanding beyond porn and videos of people's cats.
ReplyDeleteJeremy, you're funny. I would tend to agree on all the above ... Khan's technology ability is above my current technical skills PLUS, it is refreshing to see more and more educational sites. Thanks ... Cat
DeleteWhat terrific resources to share. I have to admit that I've never heard of the Khan Academy, but I'm interested in checking it out in my free time to refresh some of the gaps in my science knowledge.
ReplyDeleteAnd to answer your question, I have investigated setting up my own website but have only ever done so professionally to convey my professional profile. In the past, I also had pedagogical activities on my website which I coded entirely in HTML. That was definitely labor intensive. These premade forms or educational sites really do make the organization of a class online so much more feasible.
Although labor intensive, an excellent tool in the long run. One would simply need to edit, when need. My I add, you have utilized blackboard to one of its fullest potentials. And I have been a BB user since 2006 when it was WebCt. Thanks. Cat
DeleteAdding technology to any learning environment better prepares individuals for the twenty-first century. Like Dr. Sauro, I personally, have never heard of the Khan Academy however, I look forward in exploring his "cool" approach in exploring science. May I add, when adding any new, and exciting, tool in the classroom, teachers will need to learn how to use such tools and decide if that said tool supports the class objectives and curriculum. As with your post, you guided us to explore sites for a better understanding. Challenges is a give, incorporating technology has greater benefits that those changelings. From educational games to on-line books ... teacher can individualize each student's progress. Finally, guiding s student's individual needs via technology, teachers can focus on skills like problem solving, character development and critical thinking all the while keeping track and assess student progress with the aide of technology is an added bonus. Great post! Thanks, Cat
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the websites. It took me a while to log in but it was very educational. I will probably use it in my classroom, to start building our classroom website. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThis new technology provides more chances for students including ELL students to study functionally. I think this technology will be in real life in the future.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great idea to build up your own website in our educational environment, this will help both instructors and students to use technology in their own ways in order to acquire the important objectives.
